Note about alternate "stitch" methods: though traditionally the stitch in stitch and glue has been copper wire, i find cable ties to be better for a few reasons. mainly, they are easier to tighten and remove (in some instances), and they have a safety feature integrated into them in the sense that they usually break before the wood breaks in. Stitch and glue is a simple boat building method which uses plywood panels stitched together, usually with copper wire, and glued together with epoxy resin.this type of construction can eliminate much of the need for frames or ribs. plywood panels are cut to shape and stitched together to form an accurate hull shape without the need for forms or special tools.. I am building an oarling dory and have used plastic electricians cable ties to stitch it. i did the first seam at the bow as a test run and all worked well. i pulled about 20% of ties out at 24 hour mark..all came out easily but this morning at the 36 hour mark the epoxy had hardened more and half the rest have snapped off as they are held in too tight..
